274. Deputy James Bannon asked the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform the cost in 2011 to his Department and to each body under the aegis of his Department of implementing the Official Languages Act 2003; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [44471/12]

The cost in 2011 to my Department of implementing the Official Languages Act 2003 was 4,870.98. With regard to the Offices and Agencies under the aegis of my Department the following is the position:

Ombudsman

The cost to the Office of the Ombudsman, Office of the Information Commissioner, Standards in Public Offices Commission and the Office of the Commissioner for Environmental Information of implementing the Official Languages Act 2003 in 2011 was approximately 12,129.27. The cost to the Commission for Public Service Appointments in 2011 was 6,080.00.

Public Appointments Service

The cost of implementing the Official Languages Act in the Public Appointments Service in 2011 was 131,863.

State Lab

In 2011 the cost associated with implementing the Official Languages Act 2003 in the State Laboratory was 631.75.

Special EU Programmes Body

The total cost to the Special EU Programmes Body in 2011 for the provision of Irish language services (translation) was 3,379.85.

Office of Public Works

The Office of Public Works (OPW) has advised me that it is not possible for them to provide the detailed information sought in the time available. A response will issue directly from the OPW to the Deputy in due course.
