Decisions in relation to the deployment of Garda vehicles are a matter for the Garda Commissioner. I understand from the Garda authorities that in relation to patrol cars the relevant manufacturers have indicated that they are only prepared to guarantee the durability of the body structure and the chassis up to 300,000 kilometres. Accordingly, these vehicles are withdrawn from service once the odometer reading reaches 300,000 kilometres and this is the operational policy that has been applied by the Garda authorities on an on-going basis.
