Deputy Michael Healy-Rae asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine his views regarding an application for an aquacultural licence for Bantry Bay, County Cork; if he will agree with the concerns of locals who feel that it would be breaking EU legislation if it were to actually be granted; and if he will make a statement on the matter. It is understood the Deputy is referring to an application submitted to my Department by Marine Harvest Ireland for an aquaculture licence in respect of a proposed salmon farm at Shot Head in Bantry Bay. The application is under consideration by my Department in accordance with the provisions of the 1997 Fisheries (Amendment) Act and all relevant EU legislation.
