Deputy Charlie McConalogue asked the Minister for Education and Skills if he has had any discussions with the Department of Social Protection in relation to cuts to the back to education allowance and to the cost of education allowance and the impact these would have on young persons accessing further education and training; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The Back to Education Allowance and decisions in relation to funding for that scheme are a matter for my colleague, the Minister for Social Protection. Officials in my Department are in ongoing contact with officials in the Department of Social Protection in relation to issues affecting learners who are also clients of that Department.
