View answerThe legislation underpinning the Nursing Homes Support Scheme encompasses a principle of resident choice. Once a person receives approval for financial support under the Scheme they can choose any approved nursing home, subject to it being able to meet their care needs and having an available bed. The provision applies to public, private and voluntary nursing homes alike. A list of nursing homes that are approved for the purposes of the Scheme is available from the local Nursing Homes Support Office or on the HSE's website. As this is a service matter it was referred to the Health Service Executive for direct reply. I understand that the HSE replied to the Deputy on the 22nd January.
