Broughan asked the Taoiseach if legislation is currently being prepared to facilitate a referendum on the abolition of Seanad Éireann; the timeframe for the publication of the legislation; when the referendum will be held; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Legislation to facilitate a referendum on the abolition of the Seanad is being prepared and it is intended that the Referendum Bill will be published in the next session. No decision has been taken about the date of the referendum, but it is my intention that it will take place in the Autumn.
