The HSE's National Operational Plan for 2013 provides for additional funding of €3.5m and 30 WTEs to enable Beaumont Hospital to perform 50 live donor transplants in 2013 as part of an expansion of the Live Donor Transplantation Programme aiming to achieve up to 100 live donor transplants annually by 2015. The Operational Plan also includes a commitment to maintain/increase the number of solid organ transplants, to a minimum of 200 renal transplants (deceased and living), 20 lung transplants, 15 heart transplants and 54 liver transplants in 2013. In conjunction with the HSE's National Organ Donation and Transplantation Office I am considering what practices and organisational changes could further improve donation rates in Ireland. I have asked the HSE to reply directly to the Deputy in relation to the specific issues raised.
