256. Deputy Terence Flanagan asked the Minister for Education and Skills if the extension of teachers' working hours in the Croke Park Agreement will cease and the old teaching hours return post recession; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18511/13]
View answerUnder the Public Service (Croke Park) Agreement 2010 – 2014, teachers undertook to provide an additional hour per week to allow for a range of essential school activities, such as school planning, continuous professional development, induction, substitution and supervision (including supervision immediately before and after school times), to take place without reducing class contact/tuition time. It is the view of my Department that this additional time now constitutes part of the normal working terms and conditions of teachers.
