453. Deputy Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin asked the Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government when will he formally respond to the report of the Constitutional Convention to hold a referendum to reduce the voting age to 16 years; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25281/13]
View answerThe First Report of the Convention on the Constitution, which was submitted to the Oireachtas on 26 March 2013, contained a recommendation that the voting age should be lowered to 16. The Government is considering this recommendation and will provide a response in the Oireachtas within 4 months – by 26 July 2013 – in accordance with the resolution of the Oireachtas establishing the Convention in July 2012.
