118. Deputy Bernard J. Durkan asked the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform the extent to which employment in the public sector has been reduced in line with troika agreement; the degree to which this has achieved the savings targets set; and if he will make a statement on the matter. As the Deputy is aware the development of a leaner, more efficient public service is a key element of the Programme for Government and there are annual targets for achieving this. These annual targets have been met each year since the Government came to power. These targets also form part of our commitments under the EU-IMF programme.
