My Department incurs expenditure on public advertisements in connection with a wide range of educational programmes and schemes including: staff appointments in the education sector, invitations to attend local hearings, invitations to forward submissions on education-related schemes/projects, and invitations to tender for school building projects. Every effort is made to keep advertising costs as low as possible. Advertisements are placed in local media if there is a specific local dimension to the matter concerned. The amount of money (to the nearest thousand euro) spent by my Department on advertising for each of the years 2008 to 2012 is as follows: 2012, €107,000; 2011, €95,000; 2010, €105,000; 2009, €77,000; and 2008, €340,000
