Deputy Gerry Adams asked the Minister for Health if women who are survivors of symphysiotomy can apply for and be allocated a medical card without being subjected to a means assessment; if a woman with a spouse or partner who has survived a symphysiotomy applies for a medical card, if the application applies to her alone; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Survivors of Symphysiotomy are eligible for a medical card, regardless of their level of income/means. The medical card, when issued, covers the Symphysiotomy survivor only.
