178. Deputy Bernard J. Durkan asked the Taoiseach the extent to which agency staff have been used in his Department in each of the past five years to date for the purpose of answering and transferring calls on the switchdesk; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2271/14]
View answerA switchdesk service is provided to my Department by Éircom. Two Telephonists are provided to operate the telephone switchdesk.
This arrangement originates from a time when telephonist services were provided to all Government Departments by the Department of Post and Telegraphs. This arrangement has met the Department’s needs for a prolonged period.
