Deputy Seán Kyne asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine in view of the introduction of new regulations regarding the operation of marts and the auctioning of livestock, which now requires a person to be licensed by the Property Services Regulatory Authority, his views on whether an educational course specialising in livestock auctioning should be established; and if he will make a statement on the matter. My Department has consulted with the Property Services Regulatory Authority on formal educational requirements for livestock auctioneers. The Property Services Regulatory Authority has indicated it welcomes the opportunity to engage with the industry to develop an educational model which better reflects the requirements of livestock trading.
