270. In accordance with the Financial Emergency Measures in the Public Interest Act 2009 the Pension-Related Deduction (PRD) is applicable to staff of public bodies (including schools) who are entitled to receive a public service pension. The PRD is not applicable to staff of public bodies who are not entitled to receive a public service pension and I am not aware of any case where privately paid staff who are employed by schools and who are not entitled to receive a public service pension have had the PRD applied to them. If the Deputy is aware of any case where the PRD may have been improperly applied to privately paid staff in a school, I would invite him to provide details to my Department and the matter will be examined.
