454. Deputy Sean Fleming asked the Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources if he will provide full details, including salary, of every appointment he has approved since coming into office of special advisers under his remit; the salary cap that is in place with respect to special adviser appointments; the number of appointments he has approved with salary in excess of the cap; and if he will make a statement on the matter. No Special Adviser has been formally appointed since my appointment.

Special Adviser appointments will be undertaken in accordance with the Instructions on Ministerial Appointments for the 31st Dáil and the Guidelines on Staffing of Ministerial Offices (July 2014) issued by the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform.

In accordance with Section 11(1)(a) of the Public Service Management Act 1997, I may appoint a maximum of two Special Advisers.
