View answerThe Deputy will be aware that the Road Traffic Act, 2006 (Restriction of Use of Mobile Phones) Regulations 2014 commenced on 1 May 2014. I am informed by the Garda authorities that, while there have been no prosecutions to date in respect of this offence, 19,083 fixed charge notices have issued from 1 January, 2014 to 8 July, 2014 in respect of the offence of holding a mobile phone while in charge of a mechanically propelled vehicle.
