257. Deputy Bernard J. Durkan asked the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport if, and when, a provisional or other driver's licence may issue in the case of a person (details supplied) in County Galway whose application has been refused on foot of their residency status; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The operation of the National Driver Licensing Service is the statutory responsibility of the Road Safety Authority, and I have no power to intervene in individual cases.   

I have therefore referred the question to the Authority for direct reply.  I would ask the Deputy to contact my office if a response has not been received within ten days.
