224. Deputy Thomas P. Broughan asked the Minister for Finance if he will provide in tabular form the number of complaints handled by the Financial Services Ombudsman in the years 2012, 2013 and to date in 2014; the number of these complaints in which oral hearings took place; and the number of such complaints in which the complainant was represented by a third party, including a member of the legal profession. At the outset, I must point out that the Financial Services Ombudsman is independent in the performance of his statutory functions.

However, the Financial Services Ombudsman has informed me that the information requested by the Deputy is as follows (I have assumed that the Deputy wishes to refer to complaints closed during the particular years):-
