Deputy Tom Fleming asked the Minister for Health if he will review the existing procedures for appointing doctors to general medical services contracts in a community to ensure that there is a continuity of service and a clinic premises located in that community to continue existing services as provided by the previous general practitioner; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Under the Health Act, 2004, the Health Service Executive (HSE) has the responsibility to manage and deliver, or arrange to be delivered on its behalf, health and personal social services. This includes responsibility for arrangements to ensure appropriate service delivery for General Medical Services (GMS) Scheme (medical card and GP visit card) patients. Therefore, this matter has been referred to the Health Service Executive (HSE) for direct reply to the Deputy.
