557. Deputy Michael McGrath asked the Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government the number of registered cars in each category based on CO2 emissions; the number of cars registered in each category based on engine size; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [49299/14]
View answerRegistration of vehicles is a matter for the Office of the Revenue Commissioners. I assume that the Question is referring to the motor taxation of private vehicles which is based on CO2 for vehicles registered since July 2008, and on the basis of engine capacity for private vehicles registered prior to that date. There were 1,990,910 private vehicles either under current taxation or declared off the road on 30 November 2014. The breakdown by band is set out in the table.
