Road traffic legislation enacted in 2010 and 2014 provides, inter alia, that penalty points incurred by the holders of non-Irish driving licences can now be endorsed on the drivers' records. The same provisions apply to these licences, in terms of penalty point duration, as with Irish licences. In other words, the points count down from the day they are incurred and are removed after a three-year period.

Therefore, in the case referred to by the Deputy, the points which were notified to the driver in February 2011 are no longer on his record.
