571. Deputy Sandra McLellan asked the Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government the reason prospective council tenants are not provided the opportunity to view a property before they accept or refuse it following an offer; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5549/15]
View answerUnder section 22 of the Housing (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2009, the allocation of dwellings in accordance with an allocation scheme is a matter for the housing authority concerned and I have no power to intervene in individual cases. It is of course important that dwellings are allocated efficiently and effectively by local authorities. If the Deputy wishes to send me specific information regarding the particular circumstances alluded to I will consider whether further guidance, from my Department, is required.
