Questions (435)

Patrick O'Donovan

Question:

435. Deputy Patrick O'Donovan asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine if grant assistance is available, through his Department, for a farmer who has received approval from the National Parks and Wildlife Service to carry out works on that farmer's lands to stop the erosion of the farm, caused by a river that flows through it; and if he will make a statement on the matter. My Department does not directly grant aid remedial works on watercourses. However, under the Green Low-Carbon Agri-Environment Scheme (GLAS) payment may be drawn down for a range of actions which can contribute to the stabilisation of river banks. These include Riparian Margins, Protection of Watercourses from Bovines or Small Woodland Establishment. The first tranche for GLAS closes today but the Scheme will be reopened to new applications in the Autumn.
