483. Deputy Mick Wallace asked the Minister for Justice and Equality if the 300 migrants who we have agreed to resettle, as part of the European Union plan to tackle the current migration crisis, will be automatically granted refugee status, or if they will be forced to go into direct provision as asylum seekers; and if she will make a statement on the matter. All persons admitted to Ireland for permanent resettlement are granted programme refugee status on arrival, in the normal course programme refugees are accommodated by the Reception and Integration Agency for a period to facilitate a language training and orientation programme and while accommodation is sourced in local communities.
