Deputy Billy Kelleher asked the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport if he will confirm that driving licences are free for persons over 70 years of age; the circumstances in which a person over 70 years of age would be charged in relation to a driving licence; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Applicants for a driving licence who are over 70 must renew their licence every 3 years, subject to medical certification of their fitness to drive.  There is no driver licence fee for people over 70 years of age.
