83. Deputy Seán Kenny asked the Minister for Justice and Equality if the Garda Commissioner intends to create a dedicated full-time stolen bike unit within An Garda Síochána; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [32346/15]
View answerAs the Deputy will appreciate, it is the Garda Commissioner who is responsible for the distribution of resources, including personnel and resources, among the various Garda Regions, Divisions, and Districts; and I as Minister have no direct role in the matter. Garda management keep this distribution under continuing review in the context of crime trends and policing priorities so as to ensure that the optimum use is made of these resources.
I have requested the information sought in relation to a dedicated full time stolen bike unit, and I will write directly to the Deputy on receipt.
