151. Deputy Sean Fleming asked the Minister for Health the work undertaken by the National Task Force on Prescribing and Dispensing, since it was first established in 2012 [40879/15]

The HSE's Medicines Management Programme (MMP) was established in 2013 to provide national leadership relating to issues such as the quality of the medicines management process, access to medicines and overall expenditure on medicines. The MMP has a wide range of activities ongoing including:

- The ‘preferred drugs’ initiative;

- Encouragement of generic prescribing;

- Prescribing guidance to enhance safety and efficacy of medicines

- Assessment of high cost medicines already reimbursed; and

- Dissemination of information to enhance safe, effective and cost-effective prescribing.
