Questions (174)

Willie Penrose

Question:

174. Deputy Willie Penrose asked the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport the steps he will take with the National Driver Licence Service to ensure an application for renewal of a driver licence is dealt with immediately, as it is being held up on the basis this person uses her maiden name, although she has used her maiden name since she first received a licence in 1974 and has never used her married name, and although she receives her pension payments without difficulty in her maiden name; if this matter will be dealt with without delay and if he will make a statement on the matter. The operation of the National Driver Licensing Service is the statutory responsibility of the Road Safety Authority, and I have no role in individual cases. I have therefore referred the question to the Authority for direct reply. I would ask the Deputy to contact my office if a response has not been received within ten days.
