624. Deputy Barry Cowen asked the Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government the cost of establishing a directly elected mayor for Dublin; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [46092/15]
View answerPending the undertaking of the necessary analysis of the range of issues that would arise with such a proposal and the making of related decisions on the structures and functions of a directly elected mayor for Dublin, it is not possible to provide an estimate for the costs involved. It would, however, be prudent at this stage to assume that the costs would be significant and would not necessarily be offset by savings elsewhere in either local or central administration.
