97. Deputy Éamon Ó Cuív asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Social Protection the status of persons (details supplied) in Dublin 5 under the disability allowance scheme, including the basis for the amounts being paid; if one of the persons would be better-off as a dependent spouse; and if she will make a statement on the matter. I confirm that the above named person and her spouse are in receipt of disability allowance (DA). They each receive the maximum rate payable on the scheme.

If they were to choose to be paid as a family unit on one claim, their combined rate of DA payment would be less than they are currently in receipt of.

In relation to rent allowance, this would not increase if they were to change to a combined DA payment.
