345. Deputy Michael Healy-Rae asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht the status of a national independence day for Ireland (details supplied); and if she will make a statement on the matter. [9183/16]

The commemoration of the 1916 Rising - the historical moment which the State has recognised as marking the birth of our sovereign nation - traditionally takes place over the Easter bank holiday weekend. Accordingly, my Department has no plans to create a national independence day.
