Deputy John McGuinness asked the Minister for Education and Skills why he declined funding for the resurfacing of a yard at a school (details supplied) given the serious health and safety issues outlined in the application and the reports submitted; to immediately provide an emergency grant to deal with this issue; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The school to which the Deputy refers applied for funding under my Department's Emergency Works Scheme (EWG) to resurface the yard.

As the scope of works is outside the terms of this scheme, the application was refused.
