66. Deputy Jack Chambers asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Justice and Equality if she is aware of concerns regarding the opening times for Cabra Garda station; if the station will revert to 24-hour opening; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [10052/16]
View answerAs the Deputy will be aware, the Garda Commissioner is responsible for decisions relating to the distribution of resources among the various Garda Divisions and Districts, including decisions in relation to Garda station opening hours. I am advised that an increase in the opening hours of any Garda Station would necessitate the deployment of additional Garda personnel on indoor administrative duties who may be more effectively employed on outdoor policing duties.
I am also advised that Garda management keeps this under continual review in the context of crime trends and policing priorities so as to ensure that the optimum use is made of available resources .
