316. Deputy Clare Daly asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade if he is concerned at the activity of two aircraft (details supplied) which made multiple take-offs and landings from Shannon Airport during the period 4 June to 12 June 2016; if these aircraft were involved in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization exercises in Poland; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I can confirm that the requests received by my Department for landings by KC10 aircraft at Shannon Airport during the period in question stated that the aircraft were unarmed, carried no arms, ammunition or explosives and that they would not engage in intelligence gathering. The requests also stated that the flights did not form part of any military operation or exercises.

Permission for the landings was granted subject to these conditions. Department officials have asked the US Embassy to re-confirm the details provided in respect of these aircraft.
