150. Deputy Bernard J. Durkan asked the Minister for Social Protection when he will issue payment to a person (details supplied) under the jobseeker's allowance scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20270/16]
View answerThe person concerned is currently in receipt of a weekly jobseekers payment of €232.70. This is in payment with effect from the 23rd of May 2016 when he made his most recent claim for jobseekers allowance at Blanchardstown Intreo Centre. The amount payable includes his own personal rate of €188.00 weekly plus the appropriate child dependent payments for a person in his circumstances.
The Social Welfare Appeals Office has advised that a jobseeker's allowance appeal by the person concerned, in relation to his previous jobseekers allowance claim, was referred to an Appeals Officer who will make a summary decision on the appeal based on the documentary evidence presented or, if required, hold an oral hearing.
The Social Welfare Appeals Office functions independently of the Minister for Social Protection and of the Department and is responsible for determining appeals against decisions in relation to social welfare entitlements.
