I have no plans to publish guidelines on the integration of complementary and traditional medicines.

The Deputy may be interested to note that under medicines legislation a medicine must be authorised either nationally by the Health Products Regulatory Authority (HPRA) or centrally by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) before being placed on the market. Traditional herbal medicines must also be approved before being made available for sale. The Registration Scheme for manufacturers of traditional herbal medicines is operated by the HPRA.

I met with members of the Sarcoma Action Group last Wednesday and discussed sarcoma services with them.

The recruitment of a consultant medical oncologist with a special interest in sarcoma, based in St. Vincent’s University Hospital, will be prioritised to facilitate further development of the service there. The Director General of the HSE has directed that work on the open recruitment process is to begin immediately.

Meanwhile, arrangements are currently being finalised to facilitate any current patient of the Locum Consultant to continue to be treated by her in respect of their medical oncology needs.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 199 and 200 together.

There is no independent plan to move the orthodontic unit at University Hospital Waterford.

The Deputy will be aware that in accordance with the Programme for a Partnership Government, an independent clinical review of the need for a second cardiac catheterisation laboratory at University Hospital Waterford is underway and is expected to be concluded shortly. No decisions in relation to the second catheterisation lab will be made pending the finalisation of that review.
