Deputy Jim O'Callaghan asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Justice and Equality the total population currently residing in direct provision centres; the number of persons in tabular form, by centre; the capacity and the percentage occupation of each centre; and if she will make a statement on the matter. The Reception and Integration Agency (RIA) is responsible for the accommodation of asylum seekers while their application for asylum is being processed.

RIA records statistical information on centre occupancy in the format presented below, which covers most of the information sought by the Deputy.

The Deputy will appreciate that for good operational reasons there is a need to always retain some spare capacity in the system, given that the requirements are subject to unpredictable demands.
