1125. Deputy Alan Kelly asked the Minister for Health the revenue currently being generated from prescription charges; the number of persons who would benefit and the cost of abolishing prescription charges for medical card holders; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24866/16]
View answerI am informed by the HSE that revenue from medical card prescription charges amounted to almost €118 million in the twelve months to end May 2016, while the number of people eligible for medical card services stands at approximately 1.7 million. The estimated cost of abolishing prescription charges is approximately €120 million.
