Deputy Brendan Griffin asked the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform if he will consider the introduction of a State sponsored mandatory pension scheme in the private sector where the employer, employee and State contribute to the pension fund; and if he will make a statement on the matter. National pensions policy, which would include consideration of the introduction of a State sponsored mandatory pension scheme, is a matter for my colleague, the Minister for Social Protection. I have asked him to write direct to the Deputy in response to the issues raised in this parliamentary question.
