Deputy Eoin Ó Broin asked the Minister for Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government if his Department has been consulted on and sanctioned the harvesting of seaweed in Roundstone Bay, County Galway by means of new technology provided by a company (details supplied) to local harvesters; and if all the relevant licences were in place and environmental impact statements completed before the harvesting began. My Department has been in touch with the company named in order to establish the full facts related to this seaweed harvesting activity. On foot of that, my Department will consider the appropriate next steps involved.
