535. Deputy Pearse Doherty asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine the number of farmers who availed of the historical farm rescue package scheme of 1982 to 1985; the average payment through the scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28486/16]

Due to the time lag between the operation of this scheme and the current time any documentation in relation to the numbers of farmers and the average payment for this scheme is no longer within current filing systems/arrangements in the Department and therefore it will not be possible to provide the information requested by the Deputy.

During the late 1970's and 1980's Exchange rate Guarantee schemes and Interest Subsidy Schemes were administered through the main banks for different categories of farm loans. These schemes were introduced in response to very high interest rates and exchange rate volatility at that time.
