Durkan asked the Minister for Social Protection the reason one-parent family allowance in respect of both their children was terminated in the case of a person (details supplied); if emergency payment in respect of rent support can be made to eliminate the prospect of homelessness while the new application is pending; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The person concerned is in receipt of a jobseeker’s transitional payment with an increase for one dependent child. An application in respect of an increase for an additional dependent child has been received by the local office and is currently being processed.

The person concerned is also in receipt of a rent supplement and according to the records of this department is in receipt of her full entitlement. If the person concerned is experiencing financial difficulties it is open to her to contact her local Community Welfare Service to apply for a supplementary welfare allowance.

I hope this clarifies the matter for the Deputy. If the Deputy requires any further assistance with this query he should not hesitate to contact Philip in my office.
