272. Deputy Aengus Ó Snodaigh asked the Minister for Social Protection to outline the other social welfare assistance a person (details supplied) would be eligible to receive in view of the fact that the person is currently struggling financially. [23094/17]
View answerIllness Benefit is a weekly payment for persons who are unable to work due to illness and who satisfy certain PRSI contribution conditions. The person concerned is in receipt of this payment at the current maximum rate of €193.00 weekly.
Supplementary Welfare Allowance is a payment for persons whose means are insufficient to meet their needs. Application may be made to the community welfare service at the person’s local Intreo centre.
It is noted that the person concerned is in receipt of illness benefit for a number of years. Invalidity Pension is an insurance based payment for persons who are expected to be unable to work for the next twelve months due to illness or who will not be able to work again. Additional benefits can be awarded with that pension and it is open to the person concerned to submit an application for consideration.
