151. Deputy Fergus O'Dowd asked the Minister for Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government if he will introduce legislation to provide city status to Drogheda; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23500/17]
View answerI refer to the reply to Question Number 562 of 16 September 2016. The position is unchanged. If an additional city council were to be established, this would have significant implications for the county in which the area concerned is situated, particularly loss of functions of the relevant county council. Provision for this and in relation to other consequential matters would have to be made in the relevant legislation. I have no plans for legislation in this regard.
