700. Deputy Brendan Smith asked the Taoiseach and Minister for Defence his plans to hold a competition for promotion from captain to commandant within the Reserve Defence Force; if such a competition will be held at an early date; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24476/17]
View answerI am informed by the military authorities that the Lieutenant to Captain competition for the RDF is currently ongoing and that it is expected that this competition will be concluded by the end of Q3 2017. It is intended to conduct further RDF promotion competitions, including Captain to Commandant, in Q4 2017. I remain committed to the ongoing development of the Reserve Defence Force in line with the strategy set out in the White Paper on Defence.
