Deputy James Lawless asked the Minister for Education and Skills the responsibilities of the newly created role of the Minister of State with responsibility for higher education; and the way in which it integrates with the existing role of the Minister of State with responsibility for training, skills and innovation and with his Department and the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation. The relevant delegation orders required on foot of the appointments of Mary Mitchell O'Connor T.D. as Minister of State for Higher Education and John Halligan T.D. as Minister of State for Training, Skills and Innovation are currently being drafted and will be brought before Cabinet shortly. The delegation orders will define and clarify the respective roles and responsibilities on each Minister of State.
