957. Deputy Róisín Shortall asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine the steps he will take to prohibit the use of wild animals in circuses, in view of the need to promote animal welfare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [34677/17]

I have requested that officials of my Department complete an on-site assessment of all animals employed in circuses which operate within this jurisdiction. According to current information, there are very few performing wild animals currently engaged within the industry. I will be glad to update the Deputy when this review has been completed.
