Deputy Louise O'Reilly asked the Minister for Health when the food in school forum will be established; the timeframe for same; the way in which his department is working towards facilitating a cross-sectoral and cross-departmental approach to healthy lifestyles especially with the Department of Education and Skills and the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection; and if he will make a statement on the matter. My Department is finalising Nutrition Standards for School Meals, a cross- sectoral and cross- departmental collaboration on healthy eating and healthy lifestyles with the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection; the Department of Education and Skills and the Department of Children and Youth Affairs. These Nutrition Standards will be published later this month.

My Department and the Department of Education and Skills continue to work together under the Healthy Ireland agenda to strengthen collaboration and support the promotion of health and wellbeing and healthy lifestyles in schools – including supporting the introduction of the new Junior Cycle Wellbeing area of learning.
