Deputy Niamh Smyth asked the Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht the status of plans to upgrade an historic building in Castleblayney (details supplied); if works carried out will be in keeping with the historic era of the building; and if she will make a statement on the matter. View answerThe building referred to by the Deputy is in local authority ownership. I understand the local authority is working to assess the potential to redevelop and find a long term sustainable use for the property. As part of this process, a public consultation was held by the local authority in July 2017.
My role, as Minister, with regard to the protection and management of our architectural heritage, is set out in the provisions of relevant legislation, as are the role of local authorities and the responsibilities of owners as regards heritage assets. My Department has no role in the allocation of funding by the other body mentioned for the restoration of this building.
